So I dropped my phone in the lake yesterday ... a Palm 680. I figure maybe it's time to come from the dark side and and buy the new iPhone. Thing is that I use Entourage and of course my entire calendar, 1000 or so contacts, and a probably 24 folders of various emails are in the program. I have synched the Palm phone and all has worked well. In order to use the new iPhone will I have to stop using Entourage, transfer all my information over to Mail and get use to using the Mac email format?
Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Would probably like to make the transition, but concerned about the time it will take and the data of course. Michael |

It would help to have more info. Who is your mail provider? How do you connect(imap, pop)? Your mail will be synced with the mail server, not Entourage.
Are you connected to an Exchange server? That changes how you get mail, calendars, etc. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. Not if you can imagine it. That’s what being a scientist is all about.” Cubert J. Farnsworth: “No, that’s what being a magical elf is all about.” |

No mail server. I'm just synching my phone using the Palm software and the Microsoft Entourage program. Very basic.
Thanks. |

Since I use both Entourage for work and Mail for everything else, I'll weigh in here.
Unless you have some important (can't do it in any other app) reason for using Entourage, you'll be happier with the Mail, iCal, Address Book combo if you're going to use an iPhone. It will take some getting used to and like all apps, you'll gain some new features and miss some features that Entourage did that these other apps don't do. If you want to keep using Entourage, it does support Sync Services and you can sync your Contacts and Calendar to Address Book and iCal. This way you can keep using Entourage and the iPhone will sync with Address Book and iCal which would be getting their data from Entourage. The Entourage Sync Services support works most of the time and I do use it to this day to bring a copy of my work calendar into iCal so that I can share it with my family. As soon as Snow Leopard comes out this fall with Exchange support I'm hoping that I'll be able to ditch Entourage once and for all and use Mail for both work and personal email. I only use Entourage now because I have to. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. That's impossible. You connect to a mail server somewhere. If you don't connect to a mail server, you can't get mail. Check your "Account" settings in Entourage. They will tell you what type of server you connect to. If it's not an Exchange server, then what Terry described is the easiest way for you to sync up contacts and calendars. You will still need to access your mail server to sync up mail, and may need to change some settings in Entourage depending on how you connect to the server. I think you need to be on Entourage 2008 for the sync services Terry described. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. Not if you can imagine it.
