I was on Apple's development site for apps. How difficult is it to create an Application for the ipod touch? Has anyone in the Macgroup done this? I am completely new to coding and scripting-I am hoping that someone like myself could possibly learn to create an app and distribute it through the Apple store. I see there is a fee to join the developer program. I already created a small program in flash, but wonder how difficult this is to translate to the ipod touch/iphone for a newbie like me?
Thanks for any advice! Natalie Yesterday is a cancelled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have - so spend it wisely |

You must understand C and Objective-C programming, and then the framework Apple uses for the user interface (Cocoa) to program for the iPhone/iPod Touch. It's basically the same skill set you need to program for the Mac. Flash is not supported.
You should look at some of the beginner books on iPhone programming. Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK is a good one for getting started. You may want to wait a bit for books on the version 3 SDK to arrive. The book above is in v2, most of which will still apply, but there are many new things in v3. You can write programs for free - you can sign up and download the SDK and tools. However, you will only be able to try them out n a simulator (that comes with the tools). After you have something working, and you want to distribute it, you must pay $99 a year to get a certificate that lets you download to actual hardware and to place you app in the App Store. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. The book I listed is a very good resource for getting you up and going - excellent examples and good support on a web site. It takes you step by step through the building blocks you need for doing iPhone apps.
There's some things in the new SDK that look like they make some of the grunt work you have to do in 2.0 much simpler, but nothing you learn in this book will hurt you in moving to 3.0. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. Wasn't there a recent post by Terry referring to a book
on "iPhone app development made easy" on this iBBS or his Tech Blog? I've seen it within the last few days or so. (Or is there really such a thing as "iPhone app development made easy.) Video help This message has been edited. Last edited by: CHunter, |

Thank you Chita,
The video is a great resource too! Now it's just a matter of read, read, read and watch video tutorials! Yesterday is a cancelled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have - so spend it wisely |
