As much as I try to get away from FAX technology, there are still people that insist upon sending me FAXes so I maintain a FAX line (via Vonage). I also need to send the occasional FAX too.
What I absolutely can't stand is receiving JUNK faxes. This is like SPAM only worse, because it costs you money in ink and paper. One day I said ENOUGH! I turned answering OFF on my FAX machine. Instead I plugged my FAX line into my Mac. Now when I receive a FAX it puts it in a folder as a PDF and also emails me a copy. This way I don't have to constantly check the folder. Now when it's a junk FAX I just delete it (which is still a pain), instead of it printing out automatically. You can turn on these features in the Print & Fax System Prefs under the Faxing tab. If you don't want to waste Mac cycles doing this mundane task, check out one of the FAX services out there like eFax.com. I still have a FREE eFax number with them for receiving faxes that come in via email. However, in order to get a fax number in your area code or to send, you will have to sign up for their paid service. Now that Mac OS X can email incoming faxes too, I really don't need my eFax number anymore. However, it's FREE and I use it as a backup. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't. There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac! ![]() |
