One of my initial frustrations with Front Row enable Macs seems to be resolved. I originally complained that Apple should have made the IR remote Bluetooth based so that it could be "paired" with a specific Mac. I have two Front Row enabled Macs in the same room and since IR signals can bounce, I was often controlling two Macs at the same time.

I saw that the new iPod Hi-Fi could be paired with the remote and I wondered if Macs shared this capability - Low and behold this support article shows how to do just that!

I got it to work perfectly on the new intel iMac. However, I haven't got it to work on the iMac G5. It's not a big deal since the intel iMac now only listens to its remote, but I would like to know why it didn't work on the iMac G5? Oh well, I'll add it to my ever growing list of life's mysteries.

You can never go wrong by doing the right thing.

There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't.

There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac!

I was hopeful that you had once again found the answer! However, that didn't work either.

I figured it out!

On that particular Mac I log in as a generic user with no admin rights. When I logged out and back in as ME, I was able to pair the remote no problem with the original buttons.

One of life's mysteries checked off Smile
