There had been discussions on this board in the past regarding curors that froze on the screen. I've had this problem for months. Sometimes it would go away for awhile but it always came back. When it did, I had to do a cold restart on my machine. Finally, for some reason, I decided to replace my single button optical mouse with the 4 button Mighty Mouse. Problem solved !! No more frozen cursors. It never crossed my mind that the mouse could go bad but it did. In any case, if you have problems with a frozen cursor, look into replacing the mouse.

Along this line, I have a mouse that came with my iMac 500MHz SE slot loader that I had been using with my Mac mini. It has developed a fray right where the cord joins the mouse and no longer works. Is this possible to fix. I know with an electrical cord one can put electrical tape on it. This fraying, however is right at the joint.

The logical action would be to replace the mouse. You can purchase a USB, Optical, Wheel mouse that will work wonderfully for as little as $10.00 or less at MicroCenter. Remember there is no such thing as a PC only mouse anymore. Also remember that drivers are not necessary for normal functionality.

At least once a week I see someone who swears there is something wrong with their Mac and it just turns out the mouse or keyboard is malfunctioning. While it would be nice if mice or keyboards worked forever, the truth is they just don't.

Attempting to repair a fraying cord on a mouse or keyboard is NOT worth the effort and should only be considered TEMPORARY fix. Besides, shouldn't you have a backup solution just in case??? Wink

I do have another, but, being frugal, I don't want to toss something that might be fixable. It sounds like death knoll for this poor mouse. RIP.

If you are really fond of the mouse, I can shorten the cable , removing the bad part. If the mouse is assembled with screws, it is not particularly hard to do. Of course, it requires soldering.
