While I have found a DVD-R media that I really like and have stuck to it (Verbatim), I buy different brand printable CDRs every time. It's usually a matter of who has the best price at the time I need some? However, this last batch I bought, Linkyo 52X CD-R white turned out to be TOO CHEAP! They burn fine and I haven't had any coasters. However, they are very very very fragile. Several disc of the month recipients reported receiving their discs broken in half and some even used the word "disintegrated!"
Lesson learned! My next purchase will be a reputable brand! ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't. There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac! |

If you visit Meritline's DVD website, you'll see excellent guidance for what to buy in the 3rd column under "Professional Grade." You would use this media if you intend to keep the information for more than a year.
A second consideration is what is the intended playback medium. You can use almost any common media type if you'll use a computer DVD to playback the DVD. If you want to play a movie copy in a DVD player, you should use a professional grade DVD-R brand for maximum compatibility. Do not use DVD+R. |
