The question came up at the last MacGroup meeting.

How to capture the whole webpage.

Paparazzi! is a small utility for Mac OS X that makes screenshots of webpages.

It’s written in Objective-C using the Cocoa API and the WebKit framework.

You can find it here. http://www.derailer.org/paparazzi/

I've found it easy to just go to the Print menu and save as PDF,

Or just save the web page as a web page from Safari's file menu.

Yes, PDFing from the Print menu works but not so good if the "page" is really long. I don't like the page breaks. Adjusting the size of the print area works too but that is tedious. Paparazzi takes care of that. It also makes tiff, jpeg, and png files.

Saving it as a web page works too. Depends on the purpose I guess.

Thanks, Kirk. I asked the question. It's a "perennial" question to Ambrosia. I noticed Michael wouldn't call on me after the first question. Wink

I'd like to see a "Tivo" or other utility from Ambrosia that works with hardware (Apple TV or Eye TV) that records TV programs at maximum resolution, and then automatically strips out the commercials. The audio signal gives away the presence of a commercial.

Oh good, your welcome Chuck.

I hear you on your want to have commercial free high quality recordings of TV shows but I'm sure you know the TV/Movie industry won't like that which may explain the absence of such software/hardware.

If you want to save a web page with active links, use "full" Acrobat. In v.8 Pro, go to File/Create PDF/from web page.

Acrobat has done web captures back through several versions. You have the option of getting more than one level (- probably includes some of the linked pages, but don't normally use more than "1'), and even of getting the entire site.

I think "print to pdf" is basically a screen capture, and may not include all contents of very long pages requiring extensive scrolling.

Google "broadcast flag." You will find very recent articles on Microsoft and others' cooperation with NBC and other media providers on implementing the "broadcast flag,' embedded metadata that prevents exactly what you (and most viewers) want to do with home digital recording devices. See also HDCP.

I remember Jack saying that pdf making in Leopard
preserved links.

I just went to the Leopard 300 new features page and was very impressed with the uhm ah well new features that Apple has built into Preview. Did or could someone check this out in their Leopard? I'm still on Tiger for now. Let me/us know please.

Oh no Jack. I have found you very thorough and very reliable in your responses. Unlike me who has responded a few times too often before I fully checked things out. (I hope I haven't looked too foolish. I meant well. Smile )
I admire your knowledge of computers and cyberspace etc. Your Genius status is well earned for sure.

That being said, I will be checking Leopard out for myself when I get it in the spirit of "seeing it for myself". That's about me and not about you.

My last post was meant to encourage people to explore the new features in pdf making and Preview built into Leopard if they had not already. They look pretty cool and useful to me. These could meet their needs without getting more software and open up possibilities they didn't know they had already in hand.

I know I don't use all XXX improvements from Panther in Tiger. I'm assuming others aren't either in Leopard and I'm happy to be wrong.
