You know how it seemed like a good idea to add that song to your favorite playlist? However, every time it comes on you for some reason hit the skip button. iTunes 7 now tracks how many times a song has been "skipped". Why is this cool? Because now you can use that info in building your Smart Playlists. As you know I'm a Smart Playlist Junkie. So I have a couple of Smart Playlists that are comprised of my 4 and 5 star rated tunes. However, every now and then I hear a song and I just don't want to listen to it right then and there. Well if this becomes a trend, then that song shouldn't be on those playlists.

So here's what I did:
1) I selected my "Best of the Best" (catchy name, I know) smart playlist
2) I edited from the File Menu
3) I added a criteria that says that the Skip Count is less than 6.

If I skip the same song more than 5 times then it will be removed from the playlist.

Bonus tip: Curious to see which songs you really don't like? Create a smart playlist where the Skip Count is greater than 3. Over time this will build a playlist of songs you detest

It's under the file menu but I haven't tried it I must confess.

What if I listen to say three quarters of the song, then skip it. Does it still count it as a "skipped" song?

A song is considered skipped when you skip it within the first 20 seconds of play.

I vaguely remember Steve Jobs saying something about syncing an iPod with 2 macs but I don't think I understand that either. Thanks for the help.

If you plug your iPod into a Mac it doesn't normally sync with, it will ask if you want to sync with the different Mac (like it always did). If you say no, it will then ask if you want to transfer your purchased music FROM the iPod TO the Mac (if it has been authorized already). You used to have to use third-party software to do this - iPods would only take music FROM the Mac, not copy TO it. You still need third-party software (or to do it all manually) for non-purchased music.

I guess the final point I need to clarify is that just the "music purchased from iTunes" will be added to the second Mac from the foreign iPod and not music from other sources such as CD's. Assuming the Mac is authorized. I must have a mental block on this issue.

Yes, just music purchased at the iTunes store.

I find it easier to just import songs (if it's a few) or copy the whole library over.

Where is the "Skip it" button?

The "forward/next song" button.

Yes, what this function does is take music that's on your iPod and transfer it to another Mac/PC.
However, the music would only be what you purchased from the iTunes music store.

No, it won't do other music(from CD's etc) because Apple's only concern is your purchased music.

This function too is geared to people who may have lost their internal drives or even more negligent - put music onto iPod and trashed their library without backing up (yes it happens, go figure).

When the iPod is plugged into the Mac and you access the feature from the menu , iTunes will scan the ipod and detect iTMS purchased files and transfer them to the iTunes library.
