If you're like me and sometimes can't remember where a file is on your computer, try this Spotlight trick using Lion to help you find the path. Enter the term you're searching for then put the cursor on that result, bringing up a Preview. Hold down the Command key and then the Option key and the path to that item will show up under the preview.
Other possibilities for older systems.
Currently running my MacBook Pro (about 3 yrs old), OS 10.5.8
After bringing up results in Spotlight, glide the cursor to any of them - without actually pressing & selecting - and a "tooltip" shows the path. (Pressing Cmd, option, or control DOESN'T bring the results Rick describes for Lion.)
OR if you locate the precise item you want, select & open it, then press Command-and the window or file title. It brings up the entire path, and you can select any part of it if desired.
(Yes Rick, we've all "lost" one thing or another! What would we ever do without the "search" capabilities of computers!)
