I recently found this little gem, and it fixed a great problem for me with Mail.app.
For the impatient, the link: http://www.littleknownsoftware.com/sigpro/ When Mail.app came out, one of the little features that I was excited about was the Signature Randomizer. Over the years I have collected a number of quotes, trivia, etc that I have put down into my sig files, and with the Signature Randomizer, I would get a different one every time I created a new message. Over the years, I have accrued a total of 230 signatures, each with a different quote at the bottom. However, when it became time to move, I changed my cell phone number, or I added a new IM accout, I had to go through all 230 signature and change them all. At one point, I decided to try to automate the process. In the days of Panther, it was problematic because the entire signature was encoded in Base64 (ie MIME). I had made some progress, but then Tiger came out and got rid of the Base64 files. Now they were .webarchives, which was better, because at least I could read it and change it, but it had its own problems (specifically, the checksum at the end of the file). Then one day I finally found SignatureProfiler. It did EXACTLY what I was looking to do: one signature template, and then inserts a quote in where you want it. In fact it does even more. With a little command line goodness, I was able to execute ANY shell command (in my case fortune) and have the output inserted into my sig file! I just wanted to share this with everyone, as I know it has saved me plenty of time! And best of all, it's free! (well, donationware at least) |
