This video editing tip comes from MacGroup member Jamie Feldman. He recorded a video interview with a teacher that at one point a student was jumping up and down in the background. Of course this was distracting. My first thought was, "wow that would be a lot of work to clone out that kid out of all those frames." Jamie, had a much better solution. He simply put still photos in that were relevant to the interview in that spot so that you would still hear the voices, but you would have some interesting images to look at at the same time. So simple that it's brilliant.

In iMovie you could cut the bad video out and replace that spot with stills and transitions.

In Final Cut you can simply put the stills on a track above the main video track.

I have 4 small (less than 30 second) video clips that I want to put on an iWeb page where I set up the stills for a trip. On some of them the last 10 seconds are of my feet, the car floor, etc. but the sound is great. What I want to do is cut out that video, keeping the sound. I want to put a couple of stills in there over the sound. I got the video cut out in iMovie, but I can't figure out how to get the stills in there over the sound track. It's probably very simple.

Donna,

You don't even have to remove the video. In iMovie, just place the Playhead where you want the photo to start. Copy the photo. Under Advanced, click on Paste Over at Playhead.

iMovie will extract the audio and paste in the still photo.
