Friends, "Always learning something new:"
Needed a B&W printout of an ad that will be in a booklet being done the "old-fashioned" paste-up way by someone else. They wanted a hi-quality printout rather than the digital file.
4.5 x 1.875 ad done in InDesign CS4, B&W with B&W image of a book cover. Exported to press quality pdf. All printing on HP Color Laserjet with PS emulation. Used high-quality ($15/ream) HP color laser paper.
Printout from Pages was very poor: raggedy edges in text visible to the eye ala "years ago."
InDesign: pdf placed in letter size doc & printed same printer, same paper. Excellent results. Would go so far to say the difference is stunning.
Who would think that printing the same file from different software - given other conditions identical (printer, paper) - would produce a superior result. VERY interesting. Now I know!
