I just upgraded from CS to CS3 -
I used to be able to adjust a picture size in Indesign by selecting the solid arrow (group selection tool) and typing the size in the control panel. Now when I do it I have to do twice by selecting the mask separately then the picture... most of the time I have re-crop & resize manually... it is a pain... when I select the group tool it should group the picture with the mask?? am I doing something wrong? or is the a bug or a glitch? Help please... |

If I could remember InDesign CS, I could give you a better answer, but maybe
this will help some. CS3 has come a long way. The solid arrow, the Select Tool, is not a group tool. It selects the container(s)/frame(s) of individual items or items that are grouped together by the Group command. The hollow arrow, the Direct-Selection Tool, selects the contents of the container. If you want to resize the container and the contents together without the extra steps, use the Selection Tool, hold down the Command key when dragging a corner handle. Adding the Shift key will resize the item proportionally. Or use the Scale Tool. |

Thank you, but using the selection tool - there is still no way to select as a group (both picture & mask) & numerically transform (for precision) the size in the control panel - this should be a basic function.

From what I can test and read, ID will only allow both frame
and content to be resized together if you use the transform tools/panel, inputting in the percentage fields, or the previous shortcut. Look in the ID Help > Scale Objects for more info. I agree; for precision-sake, it would be nice to have a check option that allows you to do this, turning the option on/off. |

A picture is worth a thousand words. I'm getting lost on the terminology you're using. When you say "mask" what are you referring to? the frame or another image? Are things grouped together or are you simply selecting multiple objects?
Can you attach a screen shot of what you're trying to resize so I can help? Even better would be a sample ID document (the images don't have to accompany the document). ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. Hi Terry,
Sorry, mask is probably the wrong term - I am actually referring to the frame or crop around the placed image. It would be nice if by selecting the Free Transform Tool if I could resize the frame & Image together numerically in the control panel. Ms. Hunter has a great idea - a check option in the control panel would be nice... |

OK, I get it now. It's not obvious, but you CAN use the Control Panel and specify and exact size to scale your Frame AND your image at the same time.
Enter the value you want to scale to where you see 100%. Although it looks as if you can only enter percentages there, you CAN also enter numeric measurements to scale to precisely. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. Thanks Terry, from me too. It certainly was more intuitive in previous versions of ID, by using the size fields (W and H). Hopefully, Adobe will bring that back in the next update.
