My external DVD burner is tanking/has tanked/has died.
So I'm using my older internal SuperDrive which dislikes the
taste of anything above 4X DVD's and returns an error message
if I try to burn anything but this speed media.

I have (10) 16X DVD-R's that I will gladly
trade for (10) 4X DVD-R's.

I don't have trade goods, but, what enclosure does the drive use? If the enclosure is good, an new DL DVD burner should be less than $40.

Jim,
1. The burner is a LaCie d2 DVD-R/RW+CD model and
while it will be replaced in the future, right now...
2. I am more interested in the media.
I will be taking the laptop on the road and need the
media to burn DVD's.

I have an internal NEC ND-3500A 16x DVD-R burner for sale (NO case). It has the latest firmware, which is essential for good burns. It should give high quality burns with TDK disks. I conducted a DVD quality study with it, so it has very low usage (10 minutes!). Maybe you could just install it in your old external case?

Price: $25

That sounds really reasonable Chuck. :-)
Can you bring it to the meeting on Sunday?

I can bring it at your convenience. [ Sorry I missed your note, Chita. I got a little out of touch with this website. ]

Let me know when and where you want it. See private messages.

Does anyone have a LaCie d2 Power Adapter that
they would like to part with (sell)?
The item looks like this:

That looks like an ITE dual output power supply, from Taiwan. It's difficult to find on the open market, but the output specs are printed on the adapter. Anything similar would suffice.

First, call LaCie to find out price and availability. This would likely be the easiest, fastest replacement - perhaps cheapest replacement too?

If that fails, compare the dual output P/S below. It will require some wiring on your part, but it is easy and cheap. You'll need to pay a visit to Home Depot or Radio Shack for the proper crimp-on terminals. Reuse the old connectors+cables from the defective LaCie power supply.

I know where to find one retail.
I'm looking to see if there is a member I can do business with first, who has
one they don't need or don't want. There always seem to be spare parts
lying around somewhere. (Sometimes.)
