I'm assuming that the answer to this question "Can Photoshop CS3 and ImageReady CS play together" is NO. But, perhaps someone has come across a solution.

I've searched online forums extensively. There are a lot of very upset Adobe customers, over the fact that they have discontinued ImageReady in CS3. Granted that some of the features of ImageReady are incorporated into Photoshop CS3, but not some of the real useful and key features. BTW. There aren't any answers or responses from Adobe regarding ImageReady's discontinuance, other than saying that it's incorporated into Photoshop - or, buy Fireworks for some of the other features that ImageReady had. From what I read, Fireworks isn't a viable solution, and is problematic in certain aspects.

I fully realize that previous versions of Photoshop were tightly integrated with ImageReady. So, my question is - is it possible to just install ImageReady CS, and integrate it with Photoshop CS3.

I have a work around solution currently. But, it seems like double duty. I have my hard drive partitioned. One running Panther with CS (for when I really need ImageReady), and one running Leopard with CS3. It grows old, having to reboot each time for different situations.

If anyone has heard of a solution that will allow me to use Photoshop CS3 and ImageReady CS at the same time, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks ahead of time.

Mike,
Your 'easier' solution may ride on what those systems can
use in common. Or in what you are willing to give up.
Can Image Ready CS work with Leopard?
Will you have to go (back) to Tiger?
I've had Illustrator CS, CS2, and CS3 all on my Tiger
system at one time, all running fine. CS2 is now gone,
but I won't remove CS because it works with a particular
plugin that I haven't updated, $$$. Wink

While you can't INSTALL a CS if you already have a CS3 installed.
You can install a CS3 while the others are on your system without harm.
Good luck...

Thanks for your input. I suppose the easiest solution would be for Adobe to bring back ImageReady with the next update - though I'm doubtful that will happen.

I guess I'll have to try a few things, or leave well enough alone - in spite of the extra steps.

As I mentioned, I have my drive partitioned in 3 volumes. One for Panther with CS, one for Leopard with CS3, and one for scratch disk. I did this specifically when I installed Leopard, so that I could reboot into Panther in order to retain some older programs that come in handy at times, and even to retain Classic if it was ever needed for really old programs. This set up works great, except for having to take the time to reboot occasionally. Perhaps, I should leave well enough alone - if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality.

Though your suggestion for reinstalling would let both exist on the same partition, I guess I'd rather not take the time involved to do reinstalls of it all.

I was just experimenting and I may have found a solution. While in Leopard, I launched ImageReady CS which is stored on my Panther partition. It opened, albeit with this message (attached). I then opened an older file which had 2 Slice Sets. All, seemed to be in order and working fine. I then launched Photoshop CS, again stored on the Panther partition. It launched with a similar message, but seems to be working fine. In fact, I was able to switch back and forth between the programs. So, it all seems to be working fine, so far.

At this point I'm just concerned what files are supposedly missing, per the message.

Thanks again for your input. I think it was the impetus for me to try this latest scheme.

It won't happen!

Mike, I feel your pain. However, I don't want you to have any false sense of hope. ImageReady is not coming back. Whatever is not handled by PS will be handled by Fireworks from here on out.

Thanks for the verification Terry.

It definitely dictates my plan of action regarding ImageReady. I will retain my current working environment with ImageReady as long as I can, because it works - and, it works well.

I really don't have any intention of buying Fireworks, as I never really cared much for Macromedia software anyway. I suppose that Flash is the exception, but I would have much preferred if Adobe had developed LiveMotion, or at least incorporated its features and some of its GUI into the current version of Flash. Perhaps, that will happen in the future.

Thanks again for the confirmation.
