I know I can search a numbers of areas, but can I get a pointer to a good explanation for migrating my win/xp based pse catalog and pictures into my new mac based lr and ps cs3. I shared the "My Pictures" win/xp folder, but when I look at it on my mac, I don't see all the pictures I see when accessing them from win/xp pse.

cjh,
Your problem is most like an ownership or permissions problem. You might try turning on SMB sharing on the Mac and pushing the files to the Mac from XP. Otherwise, your alternative is a FAT32 formatted external drive to copy the image files. You did not say if you have XP Home or XP Pro. They are the same, but not the same, especially for access and security management. |

I worked with Apple Care tech last night on the networking issue. We turned on the SMB feature, and I still had the problem of not being able to view the contents of the shared folder.
After about 45 minutes, Apple Care gave up and said I should give microsoft a call. I was able to copy the files to my Windows Home Server, and I then imported the pictures into Lightroom on my Mac |

I got sharing over Ethernet working today. Some days it doesn't work. Maybe it's just worth it to use a large thumb drive to transfer the images?
What I didn't get working today was ImageShack, so that I could show you the process in pictures. Some days ImageShack is unresponsive! OK ImageShack has reset itself. Updates may take a couple hours. 1. On Win XP: Check to see that your "Shared Documents" folder is OK. Does it have something in it to share? Is network sharing turned on? 2. On the Mac: go to the "Finder" (columns view) click on Network. Then you'll see the underlying folders and drives. I found my WinXP computer in the Mshome folder (or directory). Click on that. You should see the name of your WinXP computer become visible in the next column. Double click on the WinXP computer name in the 3rd column & click on the "Connect" button in the 4th column, and you should get the "SMB/CIFS File System Authentication" window to appear - fill in your WinXP password. It then asks you to "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to." Choose the default "SharedDocs." (Not "Shared Documents" as on the Windows computer.) You should see an icon of that folder appear on the Mac Desktop. Open it and use it as you would any Mac folder. Don't forget to eject the "SharedDocs" folder when finished.
