I had been using Photoshop CS, that was integrated with ImageReady CS. ImageReady allowed me to create "Slice Sets". I could create a slice set for HTML tables, and another slice set for DIVs/CSS. This option is not available in Photoshop CS3 Extended.
Is this feature gone forever? Should I be contacting Adobe? Am I missing something? The workflow was crucial to my scheme of things for designing and building web sites. It allowed me to either save HTML files, with slices, for tables. And, also allowed me to save/export HTML files as CSS DIVs. Thank God, that I retained the CS versions of Photoshop and ImageReady, on a partition that boots into Panther. And, it serves me well in the interim. But, I need to boot into Panther to make it happen, to utilize Adobe CS. I'd prefer staying in Leopard, with CS3. Does anyone know if multiple "Slice Sets" are available in Photoshop CS3? Is there an alternate solution? Is Adobe going to bring the multiple "Slice Sets" feature back, that existed in ImageReady CS? Any input would be greatly appreciated, as I'm looking for a solution to the problem. Thanks ahead of time. Mike |

Thanks Kirk,
However, the link you provided really didn't address "slice sets" in Photoshop CS3. Though some of the features of the now defunct ImageReady have been incorporated into Photoshop, not all of them were. And, some that were very useful are gone. I also did some further searching on Adobe's forums (I keyed in Slice Sets), and found that to be true (meaning that slice sets are gone). There are many upset customers regarding the elimination of ImageReady, but more importantly the disappearance of some features - including, slice sets, rollovers, etc. I haven't found a viable work-around for slice sets in Photoshop CS3 - except to save a duplicate file, with different slices (one for HTML and the other for CSS). There can only be one set of slices in a single file. Save for Web will allow them to be saved for HTML or CSS slices. Having to create a duplicate file just for the different slices is a pain. Layer Comps won't solve the problem. Slices carry over to all Layer Comps. If I decide to use my previous versions of Photoshop / ImageReady CS, I have to stick with them - and not open the file in CS3. Doing so loses the "slice sets" information. Hopefully, I come across with a more viable solution. Better yet, I hope Adobe brings those features back into CS3. |

Image Ready slice sets are gone in CS3. This link will take you to Adobe's recommendations for working around this limitation: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400899&sliceId=2
Hope this helps. |

Thanks Mary. Much better more well thought out answer. I pulled the trigger too soon. I think I'll delete mine. I'm never "lost" cause I always know where "I" am. I just may not know where anything else is or how to get there. |

Thanks for the link Mary,
It's certainly informative. However, Slice Sets are Gone. There isn't an easy workaround. Granted that we can access certain/limited features in Photoshop CS3 - but, it does not have the flexibility and features that were available in ImageReady. Namely, in my case, Slice Sets. I just worked on a website today, and was forced to going back to Photoshop/ImageReady CS, because of the flexibility. None of those are available in CS3. Here is a list of unavailable features, from within Photoshop CS3 (that should have been brought over from ImageReady - but didn't make it). • Image Map tool This feature is not available in Photoshop CS3. It is available in the Fireworks CS3 Toolbar as the Hotspot Tool. • Edit Animated GIF files Photoshop CS3 can create animated GIF files. It does not preserve animation data when you open an existing animated GIF file. For more information, refer to "Animated GIF files do not open with editable layers in Photoshop CS3" (TechNote kb400887). • Export > Macromedia Flash SWF This functionality is not available in Photoshop CS3. You can create SWF animations from image sequences in Fireworks. • Web Content palette/Rollovers/Image Maps This feature is not available in Photoshop CS3. It is available in both Fireworks CS3 and Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. For more information, refer to the Fireworks CS3 Help chapter "Slices, Rollovers, and Hotspots." In Dreamweaver CS3, refer to the Help documents "Create a rollover image" and "Insert client-side image maps." • Group Slices Into Table This functionality is not available in Photoshop CS3. However, you can select a subgroup of slices in your image and export them as a table. To export a group of slices as a table, do the following steps: Choose File > Save For Web & Devices. In the Save For Web & Devices dialog box, use the Slice Select tool to select the slices that you wish to export as a table and click Save. In the Save Optimized As dialog box, choose HTML And Images from the Save As Type menu, and then choose Selected Slices from the Slices menu and click Save. • There is no mention of Slice Sets. They are gone. • There was also no mention of Rollovers. All of this amounts to the fact that when ImageReady disappeared, and Adobe attempted to incorporate ImageReady into Photoshop CS3, they left out a large handful of features. I'm fortunate, in that I still have the CS programs on a separate, bootable partition. Otherwise, I'd be struggling, and spending more time, to achieve it all in CS3. I'd still love to see these features brought back, either within Photoshop CS3 - or, bring ImageReady back. |
