In Windows, I can highlight a file(s), Press "Control X" to cut that file from that location. I can then go to another drive and press "Control V" to _move_ the file(s) there.... not copy them while still leaving them on the other drive. Is there a short cut that I don't know about?

Also, is there a list online (free) or one I can buy to really learn the Mac?

Let's go riding.

Not exactly what you want, but you can hold down the command key and drag the files from point a to point b and it will do the same thing as cut and paste.

You can never go wrong by doing the right thing.

4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions.

There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't.

There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac!

Here is a link that will take you to subscribe to MacWorld. That will help you learn some things about the Mac. (If it doesn't work put MacWorld in your search engine.)

Also, spend some time on the internet doing tutorials. The Apple site is a great place to start. Also, go to a few of the Apple classes at the store -- they're free and will get you rolling.

I tried Terry's suggestion to move a file from my desktop drive to an external backup drive, and it worked as you describe - "copied" the file, and "erased" the original in one fell swoop.
- ANOTHER POSSIBILITY: If a document is open and has an icon in its title bar at the top (for example, the Acrobat icon in a pdf file) you can Command-click the icon and drag the file to a new location on the same drive - WHILE THE FILE IS STILL OPEN. However, I couldn't get this technique to work from one drive to another.
(Sadly, can't do this with Appleworks files, as they do not display the application icon in the title bar.)
