My wife recently got a MacBook Air and is having issues with the external Hard Drives unmounting when it is put to sleep. The hard drives are connected to a powered USB Hub, connected to the MacBook Air. Every time the MacBook Air is woken from sleep, it says the drives were not ejected properly.
I've experienced the exact same scenario
under the exact same conditions with my
Hence, I don't put my MacBook Pro to
sleep anymore. It's on or off.

I haven't used this one, but I had a similar app that is no longer available. Automatically unmounts any volume connected when you close the lid. Not free, but if it works...

That's not actually what the issue is.
I have an app "UnDock" that safely ejects
all the volumes when I want it to.
The issue is that the volumes aren't supposed
to eject just from putting the computer to sleep,
but for some reason do at times.
Going to try setting to just put the displays to sleep.
