Is this still the way to go? (See attachment) And if so, will it work w/ the MacBook (not Pro)

Hi, it depends on what you're trying to do. First off the MacBooks don't have an ExpressCard slot so this particular modem won't work. However, both Verizon and AT&T offer USB versions that will work fine on your MacBook.
Check out the 3G store for more info Apple seems to be phasing out ExpressCard slots (at least on the 15" MacBook Pros) and therefore I wouldn't invest too heavily in ExpressCard gear. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. I'm interested in going online from our cottage where we do not have cable hooked up. Also, using it INSTEAD OF paying for an internet cable plan even where we DO HAVE cable.
I already have a Verizon Account... |

Then your best bet is a Verizon USB EVDO/3G modem from Verizonwireless.com. Just be sure that you have Verizon 3G coverage where ever your cottage is.
Also if you'd like to share that connection between two or more computers/devices, then you might want to check out the NEW Verizon MiFi 2200. See all their solutions here. Be forewarned that most mobile data plans have low limits on how much data you can transfer - usually around 5 MB a month, often with hefty fees for any data after that (even when they claim "unlimited"). Read the agreement carefully. If you don't expect to use the internet too heavily or too often, this will be the way to go.

Will be sure to read the 'fine print'. Thanks so much for that info.

Actually it's about 5 GB a month.. but I know what you meant! :-P ======================== Ignorance breeds fear and fear breeds stupidity. Knowledge is the key to overcoming your fears The only fish in a stream that just "go with the flow" are the dead ones |

D'oh! Yeah, I'm always doing that....too many old disk drives where 20 MB was "huge"<g>.

Is there a way to see how much data you use a month if you have Comcast?

Of course not. Then you might know if you are using "too much" and get a letter from them saying you have used "too much" bandwidth on your "unlimited" connection.

I don't know about Comcast, but we just purchased 75 HP Mini's from Verizon. They're pretty slick (as far as Windows goes) and the come with built-in Verizon Broadband cards. Once you log in, a dialog pops up to inform you of your current Bandwidth usage for the month. ======================== Ignorance breeds fear and fear breeds stupidity.
