installing an SSD
Picture of Donna
I'm considering getting a 1T SSD for my MacBookPro 9,2 2.9GHz from late 2012. I have 16GB RAM, a 750GB hard drive, and the computer runs fine. OWC has one for $379.75 with tools and drive enclosure. I'm a little hesitant to try the install myself. If I bring it to a UsersGroup meeting is there someone who could do this for me? I'm out of town a lot, but I think I will be in town to come to the February meeting. Is it feasible, timewise, to do this at the Genius table before the meeting?

There are a number of members that can help you sitting at or near the Genius table. The MacbookPro9,2 is relatively easy to work on. In the hectic atmosphere of the MacGroup Detroit meeting, it still should take less than 30 minutes.

Having said that, there are some hints to ensure success.

  • Perform your regular backup(s).
  • Make a bootable clone backup to the new drive. CCC can clone the recovery partition, as well.
  • Test the clone by booting from it.
  • Have the drive swapped.
  • Boot, live long and prosper.
