Need some help, gang. I spent the better part of this afternoon helping a friend set up her SBC-Yahoo DSL line at her new office in Royal Oak. The modem they supplied is a 2Wire 1761HG Gateway and 4-port router. Initial setup went okay once I realized that their software didn't like her version of Safari and found work-arounds. Once that was set up, I tried to set up a wireless connection, but her Powerbook couldn't see it, and while my iBook could see it, it wouldn't accept the password. Tried then to set up a D-Link Super G DI-624M router. Couldn't get the D-Link to go into passthrough mode and it kept resetting the modem access setup. After 3 tries, I packed up the D-Link and have her just connecting the ethernet cable, not the ideal setup for a laptop that goes between two offices and home. Anyone else using this miserable modem/router? Ideas? And yes, I tried the standard - shut down - power up modem - power up router, etc. I'm totally frustrated.

Phyl,
this is similar to the setup we have at the Temple. 1) 1st SBC will not allow you to connect another router to their gateway PERIOD. It won't ever pull an IP address and route. So you will have to abandon that plan. 2) The wireless does work as we use it at the meetings. I had to do some Googling to get it set up. Basically I found the default address to the 2Wire and once I logged in I was able to setup the wireless portion. Never tried it with a password, but my guess is that it would be a HEX key if it worked. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. I found this page very helpful when we first got MacGroup's DSL at the BT.
