Hello folks,
After opening a new UPS account, I was not able to register for their online services with Safari because the display of their form and checkboxes was quite flawed at one point in the process.(nor did IE work, which was a last resort). (Yes, I emptied the cache, quit & reopened - but no change.) UPS tech support recommended Firefox for Macs. It displayed the page in question with no problems. MY QUESTION: What other advantages does Firefox have over Safari? "For what is age but youth's full bloom, A riper, more transcendent youth" - Oliver Wendell Holmes |

Just plain works better. I have used Firefox from day one and never use Safari. It does tabs and everything else. Plus there are many, many addons, etc. Once you use it you will wonder why you waited so long.

Safari and Firefox sit side-by-side in my dock. Safari is still my default browser because it integrates so nicely with Mail (I use the Command-I feature ALL the time to email actual web pages to people) and I really like the RSS reader that's built in and of course the integration and syncing of bookmarks with the iPhone and .Mac. However, I won't hesitate to fire up (pardon the pun) FireFox the minute I encounter a site that doesn't look right in Safari. If it wasn't for the integration/syncing capabilities of Safari, then FireFox would be my default browser.

I use Firefox as my backup browser when Safari can't handle something. I find Firefox slow to start up, and I really use all the integration pieces between syncing bookmarks and such for all my systems.
Since using the latest Safari 3 beta, I haven't needed to start Firefox for quite some time. Deciding which is "better" depends on your needs. There are many extra functions available to Firefox via plugs ins - if one or more of those is important to you, then you'll prefer Firefox. For me, the integration features with syncing, and the faster speed, are more important. I do use Firefox for debugging Javascript pages, as the plug-ins for debugging are very good. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. Not if you can imagine it. Thanks all. Actually have never had problems with Safari until this recent situation described in my post. Really am used to Safari, but having the "backup" is a good idea. (Funny how the tech world increasingly seems to demand 2 of something, just to be sure one of them works!)

This is nothing new. It's only new to the personal computer (small letters) crowd. The mainframe folks have been doing this sort of thing since day one - the pc crowd is just re-learning the lessons we learned 30 years ago. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. I notice that I am unable to play the videos at
http://www.dailymotion.com in Safari, but they play fine in Camino. |

Works for me too. Make sure you get the current Flash player.

You're right! It's working now. Last night I was having major problems with my Mac. I rebooted, repaired Permissions, and still nothing worked right. So today I ran the [i}fsck -fy[/i] thing in single-user mode, and a lot of repairs were made. I kept running that until everything seemed o.k., then rebooted, and everything had healed.
That fsck -fy certainly is an important repair tool, but I don't recall Chris Breen demonstrating it. I learned about it from a guy in the audience at a meeting two years ago. |

It's the same as booting from your install CD and running Disk Utility's repair. Or booting up in Safe Mode (hold down the SHIFT key while booting).

It's also the same as booting from your SuperDuper clone and running Disk Utility's repair. If you do use SuperDuper, you should do this almost every backup.
