Not sure if this is a grey area legally, but found this topic interesting.
People are selling their Digital Movie codes online that they don't plan on using. They would purchase a Blu-Ray movie or a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack that includes a Digital download. I guess they are trying to recoup some of the cost of that movie. In most cases these movies are selling for what a rental would cost.
Funny thing is that iTunes codes are cheaper than Ultra Violet codes. Disney/Pixar codes are very expensive whether in HD or SD.
A friend of mine would buy Blu-Ray movies and give me his codes as the AppleTV he had didn't do HD. Now with AppleTV4, I'm seeing almost the same quality.

I used to give a lot of my codes away to friends, now I keep them.
