I don't care for the new logo of iTunes 10, though I'm thankful that they didn't name it iTunes X.

I suspect that the old logo clashed with the Prophet Jobs' disdain for physical media -- CDs, DVDs, Blew-Ray-- and so the new iTunes logo resembles a juke-box button.

Thanks for your shining Ray of Sunshine on this subject Keith Wink

I would think the real reason behind the change of the logo has more to due with iTunes offering more than Music. There are Movies, TV shows, Podcasts, Books and App's... even College lectures! That would be my guess for the change.

The look of new interface feels like a step backwards and reminds me of something you'd see in Windows.

Dave,

Just an observation based on your comment. The new logo is a Blue Circle with a music symbol contained within. The old logo was a Music symbol with a optical disk behind it. The old logo would reflect more than just music and the optical disk could be a CD, or DVD. The new logo only shows music.

What the hell am I doing .... my god it's just a logo!

I agree with both views.

They've been using that logo in one form or other since the days when iTunes was simply used to rip your CD's to your HD. The old logo contained a CD which most people don't use when listening to music anymore. I can't even remember when I last purchased a Music CD. iTunes offers so much more these days.

But I do agree with Calvin as well. Now it's just a music icon, so what sense did it make to switch to the current logo?

I agree they needed a new logo, but this one???

If anyone really wants, they can change the logo in the Get Info window like anything else.

It's OK I guess - as long as I know what it is, and it's not downright offensive, I don't really care too much.

The musical notes bring a familiar symbol to the icon. This may be a comfort to some... I would prefer they just overhaul the whole darn thing but thats just me.

Having lived through the icon changes over the years in my own company's software I can tell you that no matter what you do, everyone will NOT be happy nor like it. So Apple did what they wanted to do. Deal with it.

However, if it really bugs you that much here are some alternatives that I do actually like better than the one Apple chose.

Would someone please explain why people get bent out of shape over such stupid things? It's an icon and not meant to be great art. I've seen postings all over the net the last couple of days, and the negativity is unreal. I don't care what the icon looks like, as long as the software works as it should. I saw one posting complaining that the new iPod touch camera doesn't take super hi-res photos. You want hi-res photos, buy a legitimate camera.

End of rant. Life is short. Enjoy it while you can.

I don't care about the minor logo change as long as it is close enough to the prior version that I can tell it is an updated version of the same application. Radical changes (complete redesign) bother me.

From a common sense point of view, I agree that it doesn't represent the vast variety of choices within iTunes as it has developed over the years. New icon OK, but why not one that represents more than just music somehow ????

I agree with Phyllis, it's just an icon and it's easy to see in the dock. The program works, it's that simple! At least you know it's the new version of itunes you're running.
