Actually I was forward a thread from macrumors, and I'm stealing that idea and doing it here. So let's see your vintage Mac pictures. How far back do you go? Show us the photo proof. It could be a picture of you with your Mac. It could be just YOUR Mac in its natural habitat. It could be a picture of your receipt showing how much these things used to cost back in the day. Anything vintage will be acceptable as long as its YOURS and not something you found on the web
Here's mine... ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't. There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac! ![]() |

My first Mac, an original Classic that I bought in mid-November, 1990. Took the photo a few minutes ago, just to show that at the age of 19, she's still running. I boot her up when someone finds old files on ancient floppies that they "need" again. And yes, that's a Zip drive attached. It has a whopping 4 megs of RAM and a 40 meg HD.

Prior to Macs, I was in to Commodore PETs Vic-20 and C-64. My earliest "Mac" was a Mac emulator on an Atari in 1989. In 1990 I purchased a used MacPlus, so that was my first "real" Mac. I think it may have cost $2000 originally but I think got it for less. Then I had an SE, then an SE-30 (which I still have), to which I eventually added a faster processor and the ability to run an external color monitor. From there I went to a Color Classic. Then a PB 100 and 520 (both of which I still have); then a 5300. I jumped from System 7 to 9 with a G3 iMac. Now all my machines are G4's running 10.4.11. Now that 10.6 is out, I may go to 10.5, which I assume has had all its bugs worked out.

That's a great history Donna ...... Where's the Pictures? Calvin Carson ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "portions of todays programming are reproduced by means of electrical transcriptions or tape recordings." Actually, Calvin, I started with "computers" in the dark ages--1959 on the IBM 7090. Programmed in assembly and machine language, debugged compilers and hardware, developed big systems. Got out of that in 1970 for a few years, keeping in touch via professional organizations such as ACM and magazines like Datamation. My first foray into small computers was the PET. It was really amazing to have a computer that could sit on my end table that was actually as powerful as the earliest computers I worked on for aerospace contractors. Transistors truly transformed the computing world. As far as pictures go: my SE-30 looks so similar to the Classic, I don't see the use of posting it. I really have a lot of respect for the elegance, reliability and sophistication of the Mac system. I really understand what goes into that.

Dark Ages of Computing --- That is a first. While I am working this afternoon and you mentioned old magazines like datamation ... wow.
I think half of the fun of this thread is not only to see the older computers, in particular Macs, but to also see the world around the computers of the time. For example the tasteful and stylishly dressed Terry White. Note the Gold watch bling Mr. White is sporting. Now to get into the spirit of things. I am still searching for the Mac picture to show but I came across a picture of me running a mainframe circa 1978. Enjoy This message has been edited. Terry: My initiation into the computer world was in the 70's. First, it was a Wang in the office. Then it was an Atari at home. Unfortunately, no pix to provide. But attached are two pix of the beginning of my Mac experience. The first is from from October 1992 with me working on the Mac II. The second is from February 1998 with one of my grandsons, giving my new 8600 a workout. They were fun days, but nothing like today. Denny MeLampy

Terry: Sorry, I didn't post the first pix correctly, the one with me and the MacII in 1992. Here is.
