She should be able to copy the iTunes directory from her PC to the Music directory in her home directory on the Mac. You can either do this across the network or with an external drive (formatted as FAT32 so it will work on both systems).

This will WIPE OUT any data on the Mac in her iTunes directory, so if there is anything she wants save on the Mac side she needs to copy it first.

The complete procedure is to

Copy the directory My Music\iTunes to your Mac location Music, replacing the current iTunes directory - see Jack's note..

After this, to get iTunes on the Mac to recognize the copied library:

1. Navigate to the iTunes folder
2. Select iTunes Library.itl
3. Open With iTunes (Open With, not Open)
iTunes will probably update your library. That is OK.
This step is required because there is no type or creator associated with the library file. You could fix this with XRay or some other application that can edit the type and creator, but iTunes will recognize the file and fix it up for you.

To go the other way, Mac to Windows, after copying the iTunes folder, add the .itl extension to the iTunes Library file.

When duplicating an iTunes folder to another Mac, the trick of Open With sometimes produces better results in forcing update of paths in the library file.

This tip most recently tested with a 28GB library copied from Windows XP Pro to Mac OS 10.4.9. Both iTunes were the most current current versions available..

Important tips there from James, not only the procedure, but make sure you use the same version of iTunes on Windows and Mac.

The target system tested has been upgraded to 10.4.10. iTunes continues to work fine with the copied library.
