I just received my update to PSE and went to install it. The instructions say to follow the on-screen instructions. I don't see any instructions and am wondering if I have to drag the small program icon to my applications folder or do something else. The following is what I see when I put the disc in my drive. Thanks for helping.

Just drag the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 6" program to your Applications directory.

Two more questions after installing the update. (Thanks, Jack for your help) In iphoto preferences it only shows PSE4 and not PSE6 as an option available when editing photos in another program. How do I get it to show PSE6? Can I just drag PSE4 to the trash if it's no longer needed, and will that be the determining factor in what options iphoto gives me? Also, I tried moving my plug-in for my scanner into the import folder in PSE6, but it tells me it didn't load. How do I get PSE6 to recognize the plug-in? Thanks one more time for any help you can give me.

It's not terribly obvious, but there should be three dots after PSE4 in the drop-down in iPhoto. Click on PSE4 after opening the drop-down and you should be given a dialog box to choose another program.
The plug-in may not be compatible. PSE4 was PPC only; PSE6 is Universal. Check for an updated plug-in from your scanner maker. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. In case there is not a compatible plugin for that scanner can one keep PSE4 on the same machine to still be able to scan the picture, but edit it PSE6 after it is scanned in, or is it better (probably easier) to go with something like VueScan?

Thanks for the help. I haven't checked for an update for the scanner yet, but at least I now have it set to open in PSE6 when I need to edit a photo. Love the help I get from you.

I don't see why you can't keep PSE4 as well as PSE6.
Don't overlook Image Capture - it has many scanner drivers already. You might try opening Image Capture and see if it recognizes your scanner. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. Tried Image capture but it doesn't recognize my scanner. Thanks anyway. I was not aware of that program having scanning capabilities. You are amazing in the amount of knowledge you have.
