Could someone give my the step-by-step on how to use back to my mac? I have it already set up on both computers. I am taking my laptop to another location outside my home. I want to connect to my IMac at home and have access to all of my files. How do I do this?
Thanks. Rhonda |

If you go to System Preference/MobileMe and the Back to my Mac tab and click on the ? in the lower-right, you will get instructions.

Jack-
Back to my mac does not appear in my finder under shared. Any idea how to get it to show up? Screen sharing and file sharing are checked. Thanks. Rhonda |

Not the Finder, System Preferences.

Hi Jack-
I was referring to #5 of the directions which says it should show up in my sidebar of my finder. Here are the parts I am talking about. I probably have something checked incorrectly. Thanks again. |

You may have a router or an ISP that is blocking the necessary ports. Back to my Mac is pretty unreliable from what I've seen.
Make sure both machines have the same MobileMe account information, and that they show up as "signed in" on the MobileMe preference in System Preferences. Other than that, I don't know what to look at. I tried it once and it won't work through my router so I can't really test it out. === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible. I had a similar experience (see attached). How can I change my router?

What router do you have? If it doesn't support NAT-PMP or UPnP, you would need to replace the router.

I have a 2WIRE dsl modem from SBC Global (ATT).

I'm pretty sure the 2WIRE doesn't support either mode. Your only choice is to replace it or to set up a DMZ that basically turns OFF the 2WIRE firewall and lets *everything* through. To be safe in such a setup, you need to get another router and set it up behind the 2WIRE.
After that we're talking theory, as I haven't done any of this. It might not work. There's a lot of complex stuff going on behind the scenes with Back to my Mac, and it doesn't work without the right hardware (approved routers). === Professor Hubert Farnsworth: “Nothing is impossible.
