The wikidot snow leopard compatibility site (http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/) says Microsoft Office is not compatible with Snow Leopard.

Word, Powerpoint and Excel are the applications we use most. Now we use Office 2004 for Mac and OS 10.4.11.

We want to install Snow Leopard and we need to use Office.

What choices do we have? Thanks for any advice. David

The snowleopard.wikidot.com compatibility chart does say that Office X, 2004 and 2008 are indeed compatible, but must run under Rosetta, (PPC emulator).
From compatibility reports at MacinTouch.com:
quote:
"Will my non-Intel version of Word and Excel and PPt (Office 2004) be okay with OS 10.6?"

It certainly should be okay as long as you select the option to install 'Rosetta' on the OS 10. 6 install disc. Rosetta is the software emulator that enables non-Intel software to work on Intel Macs. It is standard on 10.5, but is optional on 10.6.

Note that Rosetta must be user-installed using "custom install" options under Snow Leopard.
Another custom install option is Quicktime 7, to make it available to certain Pro apps and others that require it instead of QT X.

Chuck- can you elaborate a little bit on the option to install Quicktime? I use Office '08 and Aperture.

Pro apps - like Motion or Final Cut Pro - need QT 7. They also come with a QT Pro key. Snow Leopard will install QT 7 automatically (or so I have read) if you have a QT 7 Pro key installed, as Apple is figuring that you want to continue to use to hose apps.

Office probably doesn't need QT 7. Aperture probably doesn't either (unless it too come with a QT 7 Pro key).

You still have the *option* to install QT 7 if you want.

Thanks, Phyllis and Chuck, for letting me know Office does work with Snow Leopard.

I apparently misread the compatibility chart.

I'm delighted to know we can move ahead and install Snow Leopard. David

If you don't choose it during the install, yes. If you need it later, you will be prompted to download it and install it.

Since I use Quicken I'll be stuck with Rosetta (I think it's probably the last thing I run that's PPC only).
