Is there an app/way that upconverts video like the newer DVD players do? I want to rip DVDs into the Mac for viewing on a HDTV.

Let's start with once they are converted/ripped what will you be using to watch them with on your HDTV?
---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. There are three kinds of people, those who are good at math and those who aren't. There are two kinds of computer users: those who have lost data and those who are about to — backup your Mac! |

New "upconverting" DVD players can now be had for under thirty dollars at some stores (unless you're talking Blu-Ray).
Unclear on reasons for spending loads of time and use of computing resources to rip MPEG-2 from a DVD and then "up convert"/re-encode in software with no true gain in resolution or quality (just generate extra pixels to fill the screen). |

I agree. Just get a player that upconverts. Connect to your TV, pop in the DVD you want to see and press play. Instant gratification--no fuss. I have one.

Terry-
I will watch with Front Row, or whatever I need to get the job done. Chuck, Donna- The idea was to get my collection on a HDD for home as well as travel use- convenience. Chuck, are you saying that without "upconversion" the HDTV screen won't fill properly? - One Nation Under A Groove - |
