I should be putting my ALPS MD5000P dye sub on ebay this weekend, not sure if it's the same caliber as the Kodak one. From what I remember when I worked at Meteor (1989 - 1998) it produced similar quality as the Kodak Dye-Sub we had there at the time, but it was one of their 1st models.

It's a printer sublimates dyes from carrier sheets to other substrates, like photo paper, coffee cups, T-shirts, etc.
Everyone, including Kodak, has told me that dye printers are good for everything except paper prints these days. Inkjet printers have overtaken dye subs for photos. Nevertheless, dye subs are still widely used in drug store photo kiosks - the DIY kiosks. Dye subs are still superior for T-shirts and coffee cups. Actually, dye subs produce the best T-shirts in every category except speed and cost.
