I have a question about sorting images in Grid view.
Under the VIEW menu I have SORT set to USER ORDER. In LR 1.x you could just slide the images around/between other images to the order of your choosing. However, in 2.0....I'm having difficulty with this. In fact, the USER ORDER selection is check-marked, but actually grayed out. I would like to pick my order for the web gallery I'm about to create. Anyone have some ideas? Terry? Thanks, Thom Thom |

Did you put them in a collection first?

Ah HA!
Here's another thing I've had issues with: I import the images into a folder. After fiddling with the images, I choose the best ones and mark them. Selecting only those images, I right-click to make a sub-folder in the original folder (think, "Best of"). The funny thing is, not ALL of those selected images find their way into the "best of" folder! AND....I can't drag the rest into that folder after the fact. I noticed LR2 wants to MOVE those images, rather than make virtual copies like LR1 used to ask. Maybe its me (it probably is), but the file handling/organizing structure of LR2 is just a bit different than before, and it's throwing me off my game. Arg. Thom |

LR2 basically treats your folders the same way the Finder does. If you move something to a different folder, you've MOVED it! Just like in the Finder. So think of LR2's left panel as a view into the SAME folder structure as the Finder.
If you want to make a best of, then Collections would be the way to go. Collections are virtual and DON'T move files around. Leave your folders alone and use Collections. A photo can be in multiple collections without taking any additional space. ---- You can never go wrong by doing the right thing. 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions. So if I have a "best of" folder, within a folder...and take the contents of the "best of" folder and move them BACK INTO the original folder...what happens? Does it just move the files and empties the "best of" folder? I see weird scary alerts that prevent me from clicking....lol.
I'm still waiting for Scott's new book to be delivered! Sigh...all the questions..... Thom |

Yep, it just moves them and leaves the folder empty just like it would in the Finder. Think Finder whenever you look at your list of Folders in LR2. There is NO DIFFERENCE! Whatever you do with your images/folders in LR2 would be no different than what you would do with them in the Finder.
