On my old iMac running Tiger, I had a great little utility called Freephotoconverter which took a large size photo and cut it down for easy AOL emailing. By sending a small photo my recipients could open it quicker. It no longer works under Leopard. Does anyone know of a quick free utility which will work under Leopard and downsize large photos?

If you want to use Mail that feature is built in. I don't know if you are able to use Mail with AOL though.

Make yourself an action in Photoshop to distill an image to email size and profile (while saving the original unaltered). Then make the action a droplet and leave it on your desktop. You can then drag image files or entire folders over the droplet and it will instantly create emailable images to attach.

Here are two links on using AOL with Mail:

And if you use Leopard, here's what Apple has to say:

You can also access AOL as well as Gmail and Yahoo on an iPhone or Touch, but I found that, at least with Gmail, it deleted my messages on the server once I brought them down to my Touch, even though I set it not to and it did not save my Sent messages. So I deleted accessing Gmail from my Touch.I'll wait until Gmail gets its act together and plays nice.

Also, Preview app (Leopard version) has an
"Adjust Size" feature, something not in earlier versions. It's under the Tools menu.

just an "Amen" to Chuck's comment to use Preview-Leopard, if you just want a quick way to do a simple scaled reduction. "Adjust Size" is in the Tools menu.
- However, you may want to work with a duplicate of the photo if you want to save the original. This method will alter whatever file you work with.

And yes Mail will work with AOL. I'm using it with a free AOL account to manage my AOL email and a separate POP box related to committee work with an organization.

Go here & download the AOL Service Assistant. "Easy set-up software that enables Mac OS X's Mail, iChat, Address Book, and Safari to work with the AOL service."

Other AOL Mac utilities also on this page.
