My old optical mouse (about 10 yrs old) finally went kaput. I really like the 2-button option with scroll feature-(it was a Microsoft optical wheel mouse Like this One ). I never had compatibility issues with my macs. In 10 years I think the technology has changed-I see now there are laser mice? Is that something I should look at? It doesn't need to be wireless. I am not a big fan of the mighty mouse. Any suggestions as to what I should look for? I want to get the most inexpensive 2-button scroll usb mouse-but nothing fancy, just for graphics.

Virtually any mouse will work. I have not used an Apple mouse for the last 8 years or more. Any inexpensive 3 button (Left, Right and Scroll Wheel) Laser or Optical mouse will work great and give you access to the many contextual menus available within OSX. LED or Laser will not make any difference. The Laser mouse might yield more resolution than an LED version.

Does it have to say mac compatible? I figured Logitech was safe-but it didn't say mac compatible?

Pretty much any USB mouse will work with basic functions. If the mouse has any buttons past the typical 3, or any special functions, then it may require a driver for those extra functions. That's where you need to look for it to be Mac-compatable.

The rumor mill says a new, redesigned Apple Mighty Mouse is due almost any day now, so take that info for what it's worth to you.
