I have a NEC ND 2500A DVD burner that needs
an enclosure and power adapter. Anyone have a LaCie enclosure or equal for a unit that may have died and is of no use to you? |

Madam Hunter,
Microcenter has a lot of enclosures for sale. You may want to look at what they offer. Just a suggestion. Wow, I have an NEC branded DVD burner too. It might very well be older than Chita's cause of the number (ND-1100A).
Anyway, I've always thought that NECs were not really compatible with Macs and I have never found specs that say so. Is there some trick(driver, firmware, software, hardware) to get them to play nice with Macs? I only found one enclosure for CD/DVD burners at Micro Center myself and it was clear plastic body. All the local stores like BestBuy, Circuit City, Micro Center seem to have plenty of hard drive enclosures but are light on CD/DVD enclosures. Here is one in all of Circuit City. I had better luck looking online with a Google search. HERE is a FireWire enclosure on sale for $12.99. I'm never "lost" cause I always know where "I" am. I just may not know where anything else is or how to get there. |

Chita,
I wish I had a spare 5.25" enclosure. The best I can do is point to a $12.99 case from geek.com or via Amazon.com Kirk, I routinely use an NEC DVD-RW ND-3350A to burn DVDs and CDs. The drive enclosure has an Oxford 911 bridge to firewire 400. It works fine on 10.4.3 through 10.5.5 on PPC and Intel. It might be a MacAlly case. |

Kirk,
thanks for the link. The NEC burners I have work just fine, I just need an enclosure for this one. The right firmware is a must. You can get it from the NEC site. And Cal, I tried Micro Center... you owe me gas money. |

Chita & James,
This is one of my enclosures if it helps the conversation. It doesn't work with MacOS 10.3.9. It works with 10.4.11 on my MacBook using a Pioneer DVD burner that came from a G4. I bought it from OWC. When I slap the NEC dvd burner into it, the System profiler sees it as a "unknown device". When I go to the NEC website or elsewhere, I have firmware that is either Windows .exe file or a bin file which doesn't do anything. I did not see anything that was a Mac specific firmware. Did I miss something? Might be better to just sell this NEC cause I already have 2 external DVD burners and one in a G5(currently running 10.3.9). The MacBook has CD burner capability. My other external is a converted QPStech case with a HP labeled DVD burner as seen below. I'm never "lost" cause I always know where "I" am. I just may not know where anything else is or how to get there. |

Kirk,
My NEC burners were from purchases thru LaCie, and their updates are here "LaCie Update Tool version 2.0.1" not at the NEC site, as I previously thought. |
