Searching for SimpleTech 80GB USB2 External. Need to back up my Ipod Library on an exclusive external. For some reason this unit (Pininnfarina model) is always advertised around $49-$70 yet no one ever seems to have it in stock. Have tried Newegg Microcenter Circuit City Best Buy.

I've learned the hard way that mixing other files (doc indd pdf etc) with Ipod library files wreaks havoc with flash drives when you get things printed at kinkos.

If anyone comes across a site that has this in stock, please advise. Thanks Confused

Hi Chris,

I think a general technological trend is at play here... More for less!

I saw a SimpleTech Pininfarina drive for sale in Costco this week for $90. It was the 320GB model!

That maybe outside of your budget, and overkill for your current needs, yet you may have trouble finding the lower capacity model due to the above stated trend.

PS Are these drives any good? I've never heard of this brand before.

Andrew, Thanks for the heads up. That makes sense. The thought of re-ripping these files makes my head spin. My 80 GB ipod is far from full, however as you mentioned the larger capacity externals are apparently in greater demand. I could live with the 120GB or 160 GB models.

A friend suggested this brand, and I've been using USB 2 Flash drives to back up the MP4s incrementally. I'm at the apex of memory use on the ripping machine and need to completely back everything up before I clean the servers.

Appreciate the heads up.

Thanks Mary G. That's actually perfect for me.

Good thing they DON'T put the Ferrari logo on them or it would cost $100s more Roll Eyes
