We need to retire our venerable SCSI-connected scanner and want to replace it with the best quality standalone scanner out there. Can anyone recommend one that will give my boss the quality she wants? No SCSI - USB or Firewire is fine. I know - just asking for User input here as to what you all use. Thanks - respond here or feel free to email me direct at nightcrier@mac.com.

On the serious side, most of us probably have scanners which are not new or even less than 2 to 3 years old. I have had mine for about 5 years it is an Epson Perfection 2450. Works great, has FireWire interface and I would probably be happy if it kept working for 10 more years.

Check out the inventory at Micro Center- 14 Mile & 75. They have an excellent selection of inexpensive and pricer scanners. I've used Epson for years both firewire and usb. Been very happy - there interface works well with a Mac.

Epson or Canon make great stand alone scanners that should run circles around your SCSI scanner. Should be able to find a good workhorse model for under $300.
