Again, thanks for helping with my Dual 500 power supply problem. I was planning on removing the two internal drives until I remembered that this was a BTO Dual 500 with 2 Ultra 160 SCI, 36GB, drives installed. What drive enclosures would enable me to use these drives with my Mac Pro?
Would Firewire or USB 2.0 connectivity be possible?

It is quite expensive to connect SCSI drives to a Mac Pro. You need an interface card, cables, and enclosures. And the result is 72GB of external storage.

Here is your recommended solution:

- Buy a new multi-interface enclosure containing a SATA drive.
-- or
add 750 GB of SATA II disk inside your Mac Pro for less than $125.
-- Have someone like Cutler or McGuire copy the data from the old drives to the new drive.
--- Enjoy.

Background information using OWC pricing:

MiniStack V3 quad-interface enclosure with 160GB SATA drive about $150.
Comes with short FireWire and USB cables.
-- or
RATOC UltraSCSI to FireWire converter $109 (cheapest PCIe card I found is over $200)
SCSI Case $30 to $50
Cables $++

I have a VERY NICE ATTO UL3S Ultra3 SCSI PCI Express host adapter card for sale, if you decide you want to use SCSI.

Thanks for the responses! James, is their a cost for copying the info from my SCI drives to the new drives?

David's going rate, when he is available, is usually high-test Pepsi.

I am somewhat harder to please.

The real answer depends on when you need what and where you need it. (Read, fuel cost.) Swapping a disk from hand to had at the MacGroup meeting adds no incremental cost. A special trip does.

Harder to please ..... Hmmm?

"Say Pepsi PLEASE for those who think young"

I really don't know why I typed this. Oh yeah, the please in your comment and the please in the Pepsi Jingle. I wonder if Dave remembers the Jingle. I think you would James. Smile

Calvin,

No, I wouldn't remember. I was a Coca Cola addict from 1960 through 2000. Then I quit cold turkey. I never looked at anything Pepsi except to chide the waiter who delivered a Pepsi when a Coke was asked for.

Hi James,

I'll remove the Ultra SCI drives from the Dual 500 and bring them to the next MacGrp meeting along with a drive to copy to.
