how can I easily find the owner of a 30G Ipod without spending hours on the phone with Apple?

Power it on. Go to Settings: About. Hopefully it will say so-and-so's iPod.

Actually, someone at the Apple Store can run the serial number and come up with the information. For security reasons, they probably wouldn't give you the information, but they could contact the owner for you.

Not everyone registers their iPod....
