My daughter's ibook is slowly taking a dump, She just started grad school and I can foresee that middle of the night call,,,dad can I come over and use your laptop? Does the Apple store sell reconditioned Macbooks? Any other places?

Apple refurbs are a good deal. You get the full warranty and save about $200 on the MacBook and $300-500 on the Pro. And they are still eligible for AppleCare. Smalldog.com usually sells them, too, and I think they're the same price.

Refurb'ed MacBooks are available thru Apple's online store only. Local stores do not carry those models. Pricing is very attractive and they come with the normal 1 year warranty plus the option to purchase AppleCare.

What is the age of the ibook and once it finishes dumping, what do you plan to do with it?

it's the older version that has the 30 G drive,,,no plans yet,,,I'll let you know

Is it the HD that is dying??? You can replace the HD for under $200 (parts and labor) and get up to a 120 gig drive in it. I've done it a few times lately with great success.

I'm guessing this is a G4 iBook.
